What does it mean to be Trauma-Informed?
There are a number of ways to help organizations become what is known as "trauma informed." What this means is that when an organization is engaging in trauma-informed practices, it recognizes that most humans--two out of three--have experienced enough adversity during their development years that their bodies have adapted in a special way to be resilient through those hardships. This also means that often, people can be quick to respond to situations that may or may not be threatening. It also means that most of us respond better when we know our situations are safe, when processes are predictable, and when we practice being in community. These qualities help everyone to be in the thinking part of their brains and create the most positive of atmospheres for working, living, and playing.

We find that helping participants understand just what is happening inside each of us is grounding and healing experiences all by itself. Taking the next step to learn about resilience strategies creates meaningful and actionable next steps for participants that are practial and attainable for everyone.
