It turns out, one of the most traumatic places for both students and adults is on the school bus--sometimes each day. This has profound consequences and just doesn't need to be the case. In my book, Driving Success: A Bus Driver's Guide to Student Management, I outline the main problems, but more importantly, I create a plan for how to change this entirely. Imagine if as a school bus driver, you not only looked forward to work each day, you couldn't wait to see you kids.
One of the most overlooked places where we could make a significant impact on students in the American public school system is how so many students begin and end their day. The school bus does not have to be a traumatic place. In fact, we can show that a well run bus can actually be a wonderful experience for everyone. But, you have to know how.
As I have talked with drivers and transportation managers, drivers get little to no training around how children work and what it means to have a bus management plan. We are about to change that. Partnering with districts and transportation companies, we are working to provide supports for drivers so that you have the tools to manage your bus in a way that is win for everyone.
Coming Soon: Get the App!
As I developed both the book and the professional developmen to accompany it, it became clear that an App would be helpful to drivers. So, we have gone ahead and done that for you. The App can be downloaded in both Apple and Google Play and has a very small annual fee of $10. The App allows you to put your plan into action and includes a place to land your bus management plan, create individual plans for each student, add goals, and note incidents that have occured, including an export feature so you can send your notes to school administation or parents.
